What have people been saying about being involved with the project?
“DTE doesn’t focus on what patients can’t do, as other therapies do, they focus on what you can do. The programmes and amazing staff show patients that while you can’t reverse what happened to you, you can adapt anything to be able to participate and engage in life. This project empowers patients.”

NHS Staff
“It has been particularly beneficial to mix patients from the ward with patients from the day unit. Those patients on the ward see someone who they met on the meadow and then see them engaging in the day service, gives them motivation to move forward and confidence to know they can and will.”

NHS Staff
“Patients feel part of something bigger being involved with DTE. So many opportunities in their lives have been ripped away, all of a sudden, it feels like everything has gone. DTE makes patients feel like they are not only doing this because they have a brain injury. This is something they can do despite having a brain injury; something that many other members of the community are involved with.”

NHS Staff
“Absolutely fabulous experience. Learned loads with hands on guidance from Barney, Emma, Adam, Sam and Jake. My confidence has soared! So looking forward to coming back volunteering. Thank you so much!”

Participant
“First time since my stroke that I have felt able and useful. Good socialising, a very happy feeling. I’ve learned woodworking skills, dug holes (for fencing) without postmix and feeling confident.”

Participant
“I have really enjoyed my time at DTE and would love to come back. All of the activities we have done has inspired me to make my own creations at home. Thank you for making me feel welcome every time I am coming here. And also have inspired me to choose my career as construction.”
